Troubleshooting Guide :: Frozen Beverage :: Product Leaking Inside Machine

Introduction

If your Spaceman machine is leaking product from the inside of your machine, there are often some very simple reasons that can be quickly checked to resolve the issue.  If the below steps do not resolve your issue, please contact Spaceman technical support with detailed information of the results from the below troubleshooting steps along with detailed pictures of the leaking product.  Please be sure to include your model type and serial number in your inquiry for the fastest service.

Warning:  Operating the machine with the doors off is dangerous.  Please be careful not to place your hands or any objects inside the freezing cylinder when in operation.  Failure to do so may cause severe injury.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Perform routine machine disassembly, cleaning, and assembly.  Disassemble, clean, and re-assemble your machine per the Operator manual.  Please pay close attention that all parts are installed in the correct orientation, are lubricated properly with Spaceman High-Temperature Food-Grade Lubricant.
Special Instruction: Clean and Inspect Internal Drip Tray during cleaning.  Leaking in the internal drip tray is the first sign that the Tune-Up kit needs to be replaced, or that there is not sufficient lubrication on the drive shaft. During the priming and purging step, ensure that your machine has been purged of all sanitizer and has been primed correctly.  In frozen beverage machines, product should be almost filled to the prime port.
Solution: The most common cause of internal leaking is improper cleaning, or lack of lubrication.  Use more lubrication when cleaning the machine, and clean the machine more often.  Follow the instructions in the FB: Best Practices article for best results.

  1. Perform a visible inspection of all O-rings, gaskets, driveshafts and other wearable parts included in the Tune-Up Kit to make sure none are damaged or missing.  Most importantly, verify that your drive-shaft gasket at the back of the cylinder is clean, undamaged, and has sufficient lubrication.  Also verify that your scraper blades are not worn out and installed in the correct orientation.  For more information on Tune-Up kits and proper maintenance, please see the FB: Tune Up Kits article.

Solution: Worn out wearable parts is a sign of not replacing wearable parts often enough.  Replace your tune-up kit parts more often.

  1. Inspect Drive Shaft for damage.  The drive shaft should not have any deep grooves that are able to be caught by your fingernail.  If your drive shaft is damaged or has excessive wearing, replace it immediately.

Solution: Excessive wear on the drive shaft is a sign of lack of lubrication. Use more lubrication when cleaning the machine, and clean the machine more often.

  1. Verify Leaking with Sanitizer.  Perform a routine machine cleaning, replacing the Tune-Up Kit parts.  Clean, dry and install the internal drip tray on the side of the machine.  During the sanitizing process, allow your machine to run for the 5-10 minutes in WASH mode with sanitizing liquid in the cylinder.  Pull out your internal drip tray.  No liquid should be present in the drip tray.

Solution: If liquid is present in your internal drip tray after this step, and Steps 1 through 3 have been completed properly, your machine may need service to replace the rear shell bearing and/or drive shaft.  Inspect these parts for damage, deep grooves, etc.  The drive shaft can be replaced during a normal cleaning.  An authorized service technician will be required to replace the rear shell bearing if required.
