Introduction
As a diagnostic check, Spaceman may recommend performing a Frost Check to determine the functionality of the refrigeration system. This test should ONLY be performed for diagnostic purposes and is NOT recommended to be performed on a regular basis.
Warning: Operating the machine with the doors off is dangerous. Please be careful not to place your hands or any objects inside the freezing cylinder when in operation. Failure to do so may cause severe injury.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Drain, Rinse, and Disassemble your machine in accordance with your machine’s operator manual.
- Clean the interior of the cylinder, and ensure the dispensing door and beater parts have all been removed and set aside.

- Press RESET and then FREEZE to enter Freeze mode. If your machine has analog controls, turn the machine to FREEZE mode.
Note: If your machine has multiple flavors, perform this test one side at a time.
- The motor should turn on, and a few seconds later the compressor and condensing fan should turn on.
- After approximately 30 seconds, your cylinder wall should begin to get very cold and start forming a thin layer of frost. On machines with an auxiliary compressor, the walls of the hopper(s) will begin to get cold after approximately 1 minute. This indicates that your refrigeration system has adequate refrigeration charge and is working as intended.
Important: Allow machine to run for at least 1 minute before proceeding to not short-cycle the compressor
- Press RESET to stop the freezing process.
- If your machine has two flavors, repeat steps 3-6 for the second flavor.
- If both sides of your machine have frosted up in adequate time, then your refrigeration system is functioning correctly. Allow approximately 5 minutes for the frost to thaw before re-assembling your machine.
